What was the goal of the League of Nations? Was it successful in this goal?

3. In your opinion — supported by the documents from the readings — what was the goal of the League of Nations? Was it successful in this goal? What was the goal of the League of Nations and was it successful? I would say that there were several minor goals associated with it, but the main goal was to prevent another war in Europe, especially another war on the scale of World War I. Clearly they considered this to be the most fundamental goal of their organization because at the beginning of the charter for the league of nations it lists four reasons why the “High Contracting Parties” “Agree to this Covenant of the League of Nations.” and the first of these reasons are “In order to promote international cooperation and to achieve international peace and security by the acceptance of obligations not to resort to war.” So there reasons for founding the League are clear. Europe had just gone through their most devastating conflict in history, and they did not wish for something like that to ever happen again, and the technologies that had made this conflict so devastating were only going to keep advancing. So the League’s main objective is clear. So did they succeed in their goal? I would argue that they did not. They failed to prevent World War 2 from happening, which was even more devastating than World War 1. I think that part of the reason that they disbanded after World War 2 was that even they recognized how unsuccessful they had been.
