Scholarly Presentation on an Ethical Issue

Purpose:

 

The purpose of this assignment is to enable students to share with their colleagues an ethical issue of interest that is currently debated in nursing and to provide all students in the class an opportunity to hear about a wide range of ethical issues. The topic/issue for this presentation is the same topic selected for the scholarly paper. However, the content for presentation is a bit different and also more streamlined than your paper (see guidelines below). AS WITH YOUR PAPER, THE TOPIC SELECTED MUST NOT BE THE SAME AS ANY OF THE PANEL PRESENTATION TOPICS.

 

Guidelines:

1. Prepare a 10-15minute power-point presentation (you MUST adhere to timeframe)
2. Content of your presentation must include:
3. What is the ethical issue (formulate as “Is it morally right to…”). Why is this issue ethical in nature?
4. What are two opposing perspectives on this issue (3 major pro points; 3 major con points)? What ethical principles are at stake?
5. Which side of the issue do you support?
6. What factors most swayed your decision/stance and why? What theoretical perspective(s) supports your decision/stance?
7. What consequences could result if your personal stance were to be accepted and followed? (consider economic, social, professional aspects)
8. Reflect on your ethical journey in researching this issue (has this experience solidified or altered your original views).
9. Pertinent references.
10. Bring hard copy of power-point for faculty on day of presentation.

 

NOTE: You will not have time to cover much info beyond what is outlined above, so in order to stay within the timeframe address only the topics as listed above.
