Writing a reflection paper.

A reflection paper is an essay of your thoughts about something. It could be a movie, tutorials, book, incident, etc. To put it simply, it is a paper on what you think about something. Reflection papers allow you to communicate with your instructor about how a specific article, lesson, lecture, or experience shapes your understanding of class-related material. Reflection papers are personal and subjective. A reflection paper should be mostly about your personal insights. It could be your experiences and beliefs. It could also be your personal observations. It is a simple reflection paper. It is easy to write because you just have to express your thoughts and how you see things. Reflection is an important part of making connections between theory and practice. When you are asked to reflect upon experience you do not only describe the experience you evaluate

To make it easy for you (considering that you already have a subject), you can start by describing the big picture in the introduction. There is no rule on how you should write the introduction but it is best to give them an idea ā€“ a general statement ā€“ that prepares them for the body of your reflection paper. Be sure to include your thesis statement in the introduction. It is the statement that sums up the entire essay. Introduce your topic and the point you plan to make about your experience and learning. Develop your point through body paragraph(s), and conclude your paper by exploring the meaning you derive from your reflection.

Give your reflection paper structure with an opening paragraph, main body, and conclusion. Since it is a reflection essay, it should be your own words and how you exactly perceive things. Use citations and quotes sparingly unless you want to make a point.  It should state your personal insight, which makes it different from other types of essay.

  • How did your opinion change after reading something or watching something?
  • A reflection paper is your chance to add your thoughts and analysis to what you have read and experienced.
  • A reflection paper is meant to illustrate your understanding of the material and how it affects your ideas and possible practice in future.
  • Begin by jotting down some of the reading material and class experiences that stand out in your mind. Decide why they stand out to you.
  • Using the first person singular (ā€œIā€), relate the readings and classes to your previous knowledge and experience.
  • Include in-text references and a reference page for any materials you cite using APA citation formatting.
