Crucial accountability: Tools for resolving violated expectations, broken commitments, and bad behavior

Responses to classmates must consist of at least 350 words (not including the greeting and the references), do NOT repeat the same thing your classmate is saying, try to add something of value like a resource, educational information to give to patients, possible bad outcomes associated with the medicines discussed in the case, try to include a sample case you’ve seen at work and discuss how you feel about how that case was handled. Try to use supportive information such as current Tx guidelines, current research related to the treatment, anything that will enhance learning in the online classroom. Leadership is an essential part of any business including healthcare. Over the last two decades, there has been a shift from Newtonain leadership theory to Quantum leadership theory (Porter-o’grady & Malloch, 2015). Newtonain principles reflect that universe is one simple machine and business who follow these principles focused on vertical control and compartmentalization (Porter-o’grady & Malloch, 2015). With Quantum leadership styles, relationships in the work place are viewed as interdependent and as a complex adaptive system. Leaders are not longer just focused on managing the work and functions of people but to facilitate relationships and coordinate (Porter-o’grady & Malloch, 2015)Click and drag to move. Leader not only need to be able to lead a group of people and facilitate relationships but take accountability as well. In today’s workforce, leaders but be able to know what problems should be addressed, when they should be addressed, and when sometimes not to speak up (Patterson et al., n.d.). In my past experiences as a leader on a hemodialysis unit, I often struggled with identifying the right issue. We had a nurse who was repeatedly late, missing work, and when she did come to work often times refused to do some treatments. As a leader, the manager and I often had the same conversation with her over and over without any change in her behavior. Obviously this method of leadership was not effective with this employee. As a leader this style was not effective and using the CPR method might have been more effective. CPR stands for content, pattern, and relationship (Patterson et al., n.d.)Click and drag to move. I believe as a leader, the content and pattern of the situation was addressed multiple times whoever the relationship was not. Without focusing on the relationship leaders are often times disappointed with the outcomes. In this example, I as a leader should have focused on the consequences and intentions of her behavior. Two forms of communication that I use to maximize team involvement is in person meetings and emails. When discussing simple matters such as due dates, meeting times, and follow up questions I will use email. For topics that are new or new more in-depth conversation, in person meetings are more effective. In person meetings allow for everyone to discuss topics fully and ask questions to gain a better understanding. It also helps with picking up on nonverbal communication. Communicating with a team is essential for leaders. References Patterson, K., Grenny, J., Mcmillan, R., Switzler, A., & Maxfield, D. (n.d.).
