  1. Which roles of the NP in the primary care setting you would find most fulfilling?
  • The roles that I would find most fulfilling in the primary care setting are providing holistic care, educating patients on disease prevention/management, and encouraging patients to participate in their care.
  • Holistic care focuses on healing the patient as a whole; mind, body, and spirit (Buttaro, Trybulski, Polgar-Bailey, & Sandberg-Cook, 2017, p. 15). Medical interventions can aid in healing the body, but if the mind/spirit of the patient is in turmoil, the patient may not fully commit to their treatment plan.
  • Educating patients on disease prevention/management can alert patients to unhealthy behaviors that are hindering their quality of life. Patients will be able to recognize unhealthy behaviors and make changes.
  • Encouraging patients to participate in the planning of their can enhance the provider-patient relationship, increase patient compliance, and improve their quality of life (Buttaro, Trybulski, Polgar-Bailey, & Sandberg-Cook, 2017, p. 15).
  1. Which roles of the NP in a primary care setting you would find most challenging?
  • The only role that I would find challenging in the primary care setting is not being able to practice with full authority. I live in Louisiana. Louisiana is a reduced practice state for Nurse Practitioners (NP). In a reduced practice state, an NP must have a career-long collaborative agreement with a physician to legally provide care or limit elements of their practice (American association of nurse practitioners, 2018).
  • My goal as a healthcare provider is to provide patients with quality healthcare. This law would inhibit me from practicing to my full potential and possibly impacting the quality of patient care.
