NURS 6053 WU Inter Professional Organization and System Leadership Paper

Description

The Quadruple Aim provides broad categories of goals to pursue to maintain and improve healthcare. Within each goal are many issues that, if addressed successfully, may have a positive impact on outcomes. For example, healthcare leaders are being tasked to shift from an emphasis on disease management often provided in an acute care setting to health promotion and disease prevention delivered in primary care settings. Efforts in this area can have significant positive impacts by reducing the need for primary healthcare and by reducing the stress on the healthcare system.

Changes in the industry only serve to stress what has always been true; namely, that the healthcare field has always faced significant challenges, and that goals to improve healthcare will always involve multiple stakeholders. This should not seem surprising given the circumstances. Indeed, when a growing population needs care, there are factors involved such as the demands of providing that care and the rising costs associated with healthcare. Generally, it is not surprising that the field of healthcare is an industry facing multifaceted issues that evolve over time.

In this module’s Discussion, you reviewed some healthcare issues/stressors and selected one for further review. For this Assignment, you will consider in more detail the healthcare issue/stressor you selected. You will also review research that addresses the issue/stressor and write a white paper to your organization’s leadership that addresses the issue/stressor you selected.

To Prepare:

  • Review the national healthcare issues/stressors presented in the Resources and reflect on the national healthcare issue/stressor you selected for study.
  • Reflect on the feedback you received from your colleagues on your Discussion post for the national healthcare issue/stressor you selected.
  • Identify and review two additional scholarly resources (not included in the Resources for this module) that focus on change strategies implemented by healthcare organizations to address your selected national healthcare issue/stressor.

The Assignment (3-4 Pages):

Analysis of a Pertinent Healthcare Issue

Develop a 3- to 4-page paper, written to your organization’s leadership team, addressing your selected national healthcare issue/stressor and how it is impacting your work setting. Be sure to address the following:

  • Describe the national healthcare issue/stressor you selected and its impact on your organization. Use organizational data to quantify the impact (if necessary, seek assistance from leadership or appropriate stakeholders in your organization).
  • Provide a brief summary of the two articles you reviewed from outside resources on the national healthcare issue/stressor. Explain how the healthcare issue/stressor is being addressed in other organizations.
  • Summarize the strategies used to address the organizational impact of national healthcare issues/stressors presented in the scholarly resources you selected. Explain how they may impact your organization both positively and negatively. Be specific and provide examples.

Last week’s paper:

National Healthcare Issue

The healthcare industry is experiencing several transformations that cause novel challenges to healthcare institutions, either small or big. Essentially, the rapid change in patient expectations, government regulations, and technological innovation develop a contemporary environment in which establishing and sustaining medical practices is not about treating the sick anymore (Heather, 2020). In addition, over the years, there have been various issues faced in the healthcare industry, including cybersecurity, telehealth, invoicing and payment processing, patient experience, price transparency, big data, and an effective payment model (Heather, 2020). This being the case, this paper will examine a national health challenge and its impact on the work setting as well as how my organization has responded to the issue.

The national health issue is invoicing and payment processing. This issue involves “payment and administration of agreements, payment to health and disability providers for contracted services, data collection and provision of information, and audit and counter-fraud functions” (MOH, 2019). Medical procedures are referring to the patient collection while their most essential income sequence management struggle since patients are accountable for settling their significant share of medical bills. The national healthcare systems require reforms because healthcare costs are rising, patients are underinsured or uninsured, and Medicaid and Medicare are in crisis (Heather, 2020). Particularly, some of the motivations leading to the rise in the cost of healthcare are the aging population gained from health technology, which enables individuals to live longer. Another season is that the choice of lifestyle that has caused cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and other related diseases (Oleribe et al., 2019). Finally, the prescription drug prices and relocating the healthcare costs to the employee from the employer. For that reason, invoicing and payment is among the most significant issue facing national healthcare.

There are also various impacts of the issue of invoicing and payment processing in the healthcare organization where I work. Primarily, the organization finds it challenging to maintain flexibility. This is mainly caused by the inability of the patients to make their payments promptly. Besides, it is often costly and challenging for national healthcare practices to develop such payment and invoicing technological processing systems in-house (Oleribe et al., 2019). As a result, the organization often incurs additional costs outsourcing those services.

In order to manage the invoicing and payment processing challenge, the organization has established various approaches to respond to the issue. For instance, the organization has encouraged patients to make prompt medical payments by giving providers guidelines on making payments. The organization has also used a billing statement that is patient-friendly, specifically, by providing paperless statements as well as various strategies of payments such as using credit cards and e-Check (Heather, 2020). This has been achieved using online patient portals and implementing the current payment and invoicing technologies, including text-to-pay and mobile. In addition, contemporary features such as email or text reminders have been established to successfully communicate with the patients and inspire them to meet their financial responsibilities. In addition, the healthcare providers are following strict procedures to protect patient’s confidential information (Heather, 2020). These responses have enabled my organization to mitigate the issue of invoicing and payment processing effectively.

In conclusion, the national healthcare system requires reforms because healthcare costs are rising, patients are underinsured or uninsured, and Medicaid and Medicare are in crisis. This paper examined a national health challenge and its impact on the work setting as well as how my organization has responded to the issue. It provided me with an insight into the challenges faced in healthcare institutions and how to manage these challenges.
