Week 5 Project

 

During week 5, you will investigate your local, state and federal legislators and explore their assigned committees and legislative commitments.  Based on your chosen health topic, you are expected to investigate current and actual legislative initiatives that have either passed or are pending approval by the house, senate or Governor’s office. You will draft a letter to a specific legislator and offer support or constructive argument against pending policy or legislation that relates to the health topic you are using for your final paper/project. The letter must be supported with a minimum of 3 evidenced based primary citations. Citations must be in APA format. Please review the rubric that is in the course for the week 5 project that breakdowns the points available. This paper/project is worth a total of 175 points. Please be sure to include the criteria listed below which is also stated in the rubric.

 

Criteria           Identify legislation type – State or federal, scope of practice, reimbursement, loan payment, etc.

                        Review the literature and use a minimum of 3-4 primary sources of evidence that is current (not older than 5 years).

 

Criteria           Identify the current policy – What is the current policy issue and how might it impact nursing or healthcare?

                        Proposed policy or pending changes – What are they? Be specific. You may have multiple changes in one piece of

                        legislation.
