Distinguish the role as clinical or non-clinical and how it promotes patient outcomes, ie safety, access to health care or health information relative to the ANP level

Week One Project Interview The ARNP role I chose to research was in an acute care setting at a relatively busy hospital in the Advent Hospital group in Florida. Andrea Fowler an ARNP graduate from our own South University works with a gastrointestinal group in the same hospital as I do. I physically round with her and have had the pleasure of seeing up front some of her responsibilities in her chosen role. I recognize the similarities and differences between her role and that of the physician she works with during the rounds we do together when her group is on consultation for one of the patients I am caring for during that day. As I interviewed her, many key points were recognized of what the role of an ARNP entails which I shall elaborate on. Also noted were the differences in bedside manner approach between that of ARNP role and that of the physicians. Patient satisfaction was rated higher in attentiveness patients received as stated by Thrasher & Purc-Stephenson (2008) when seen by NP. In reference to access to health care and/or health care information I think that a shortage of physicians is predicted by Kirch and Petelle (2017) on projection, “the United States will face a shortage of between 40,800 and 104,900 physiscians by 2030” (p.147). ARNP is in a perfect position to alleviate strain on the healthcare system and add relief. ARNP offers a care approach to healthcare whereas physicians have a cure approach (Hamie et al, 2014). The core concept is a holistic approach within the seven core competencies, the first and being excellence in direct clinical practice. Then following are coaching & mentoring, consulting, research & evidence based practice, health systems & leadership, collaboration opportunity, and ethical decisions (Hamrie et al, 2014). I saw Andrea include these core competencies in her approach to the patients and her colleagues. Andrea’s professional approach was in my opinion no different than that of the many I work with. She fulfilled her scope of practice. Florida scope of practice for Nurse Practitioners recognize ARNP as primary care providers, licensed health care providers, who can practice without the referral from another provider (“Florida Scope of Practice Policy – State Profile,” 2018). ARNP primary practical medicine (“Florida Scope of Practice – State Profile,” 2018). In Florida ARNPs can prescribe medications under the supervision of a physician, duties are specified and required under the physician and areas of management that ARNP is responsible for (“Florida Scope of Practice Policy – State Profile,”2018). In conclusion, in working alongside many ARNPs I see them with the capacity to give excellent holistic direct quality care equal to that of physicians, both with the same purpose of improving patients and communities quality of life and to have a positive impact on outcomes. (It must be one offered by South University.) Distinguish the role as clinical or non-clinical and how it promotes patient outcomes, ie safety, access to health care or health information relative to the ANP level Apply an Advance Nursing Practice Concept to your chosen role Develop a minimum of ten questions that you would like to ask the advance practice clinician or non-clinician that you have chosen to interview. Identify in the paper the individual by name, credentials, position and your planned date for the interview (Interview is due Week 3) Support your findings with at least two research articles (study, design, sample and results must be discussed). Other peer reviewed articles that are non-research and nursing organization websites may be used. All articles must be current (not more than five years old, unless it is a hallmark reference; ieAmerican Association of College of Nursing. (2010)).
