Discuss ways to demonstrate leadership in the development and implementation of institutional, local, state, federal and/or international health policy

Leadership Advocacy
Nursing leadership is needed to guide future healthcare policy. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) has provided support for national, state, and local endeavors focused on Getting Nurses on Boards and other leadership activities. As nursing leadership roles evolve, it is important to understand how policy is developed and your role in influencing future health care decisions. Needed skills include the ability to analyze health policy proposals, health policies, and related issues from the perspective of consumers, nursing, other health professions, and other stakeholders in policy and public forums. You must be able to demonstrate leadership in the development and implementation of institutional, local, state, federal and/or international health policy. You will be expected to influence policy makers through active participation on committees, boards, or task forces at the institutional, local, state, regional, and/or international levels to improve health care delivery and outcomes. You will now use your understanding of your leadership strengths, emotional intelligence, interprofessional collaboration, organizational systems and quality improvement to advocate and influence at the institutional, local, state, federal and/or international level.
Please select an advocacy topic from the list provided at the start of the semester. Your selection must be entered on the advocacy topic spreadsheet available inthe beginning of the course.
•Only one student will be approved to present each topic.•Research the topic to develop an understanding of both sides of a concern.•Identify any pending legislation related to the topic. The perspective you should communicate for this assignment is from the role of the nurse leader.•Create a PowerPoint presentation consistent with the required readings for Unit 5.•Record your presentation using the voice recording function in Voice Thread. The recording for the initial post should not exceed ten (10) minutes, less is acceptable and encouraged. The number of slides in the initial post should not exceed ten (10) excluding the title slide and the reference slide. Your presentation must be voice recorded in VoiceThread; please see the tutorial available in Unit 5 for steps for how to record a Voice Thread presentation. Initial Power Point advocacy presentations without a voice recording will not be graded.• Share the recorded advocacy presentation with the class. Failure to share your initial Voice Thread presentation will result in an automatic 2 point penalty for any submission after the due date even if the presentation was prepared if it remains private. If you do not know how to share the presentation please review the Voice Thread tutorials provided with this unit. •Listen to at least four (4) of your peers recorded advocacy discussions.•Cross record your comments for at least two (2) peers on their advocacy presentations. Cross posts should not exceed two (2) minutes.

Cross post should provide feedback on both the creativity of the ppt and advocacy discussion. Was the student objective in their presentation? Ask your peer a minimum of one question about their topic. Answer questions posted by your peers about your presentation. Return often to your initial post to see peer posts for your initial post and to respond to the questions your peers ask you. Record your response to the peer. All cross posts and responses to peers should not exceed two (2) minutes each and less is fine. This is a professional conversation, stay focused on the topic and respectful in your communication. Scholarship: Demonstrate scholarship, correct use of APA; free of grammar and spelling error. Up to 10 % of points will be deducted for lack of scholarship. CAUTION: Please do NOT review the advocacy discussions of other students before posting your advocacy presentation. Do your own work without the help of other students.
