Developing professional goals is critical to guiding your career and transitioning to become a practicing NP. The goals that you develop should be SMART. SMART goals are: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-specific (Massachusetts Institute of Technology Human Resources, n.d.). Keeping your goals SMART will increase your chances of meeting or exceeding your professional career goals.write a paper that is no more than 2 pages long that addresses the following: Identify at least three short-term goals (1-2 years) Identify at least three long-term goals (3-5 years) Explain why you selected each goal and how they relate to your professional career development Create a strategic plan that explains how you might achieve each of these goals Some ideas for short term goals: 1.Study and pass the board exam on the first try to be a board certified nurse practitioner by December 2020. 2.Gain confidence in the skills utilized to successfully and safely treat patients in a timely and efficient manner by the end of my first year of practice. 3. Attain the skills necessary to see 20 patients a day skillfully and safely by the end of my first year of practice. Ideas for Long term goals: 1. Enroll and obtain board certified advanced diabetes management certification by the end of my 5th year of practice. (I live in South Carolina and we have a large diabetic population) 2. Obtain a job in my chosen speciality area by the end of my third year of practice. 3. Join a professional organization and attend seminars yearly to continue to grow as a nurse practitioner by year 3. Just some ideas, please feel free to expand or come up with different ones
