Describe how the Sousa County Health Department nurses applied the following interventions: outreach, health teaching, and social marketing

Sousa County is a rural county located near three cities. Demographic profile estimates for Sousa County are close to the trends of state and national percentages. One difference of note is that the percentage of residents older than 65 years of age is higher in Sousa County than are the state’s percentages. Sousa County’s crude death rate is higher than rates for the state and the nation; this may be attributable to the large number of senior citizens who reside in the county. Each fall, the Sousa County Health Department administers the flu vaccine to vulnerable populations (e.g., senior citizens) in the county. At that time, the Health Department promotes the importance of flu vaccines for vulnerable populations through radio advertisements, billboards, and newspaper articles. Health Department staff members visit the nursing homes in the county to make sure that the vaccine is available to residents, and that it is being offered to everyone in the residential community. Health Department nurses visit residents who live in the assisted living area to administer the vaccine to those who have difficulty leaving home. Before giving the vaccine, the nurse discusses with each person the risks of contracting influenza and the benefits and risks of the influenza vaccine; the nurse stresses the importance of getting a flu vaccine every year during flu season. 1.Describe how the Sousa County Health Department nurses applied the following interventions: outreach, health teaching, and social marketing. 2.
