In response to your peers, extend the conversation by responding to peers who identified a different challenge than one you have experienced. Respond to this POST: My name is Rose and I am from the soggy state of Louisiana. I have been a RN since 1999 and have mostly practiced in rural healthcare which I absolutely love!. There was, of course, a lapse in sanity which led me to state government for four years……. But I regained my senses and returned to my little town in north La and am back at the bedside. Working in a rural facility has given me the opportunity to try different areas of nursing and I settled into Geri Psych for now. It is also time for me to consider moving away from the bedside as I get older and beginning to have some health challenges. While I am not old enough to retire my body is beginning to slow me down a bit so I hope to transition into something less physically taxing and get away from the 12 hour night shifts. When I started the RN to BSN program at SNHU I wasn’t exactly sure what I expected to gain from it other than a degree. But I can say without a doubt that the courses I have taken have taught me to be a nosy nurse and ask questions. These courses have also taught me how to ask the right questions using the right language and to be able to interact and have meaningful conversations with those around me and not just ask why. Research and evidence based practice go hand in hand in order for us to provide high quality care to our patients. By learning how to research we are able to effect positive change and have data and information to back us up when we present suggestions or question policy or practice. The most difficult course was finance and the regulatory side. I was definitely a duck out of water in that one but by the end of the course I wasn’t quite as confused and would like to learn more about the finance and regulatory end of healthcare. As nurses we must become accustomed to talking about money and finance as it absolutely impacts the care we provide. It is up to us to help ensure that even though some things may be less expensive is it really cost effective in the long run.
