Among the elderly hospitalized postoperative orthopedic patient population age 65 and older (P), is implementing a fall prevention program by using a “Fall Prevention Checklist” a better intervention (I) than standard rounding on patients (C) to help reduce the incidence of inpatient falls (O)? P- (patient population/patients of interest): Elderly and postoperative hip and knee replacement patients. I- (Intervention): Implementation of a hospital “Fall Prevention Checklist” which includes hourly rounding to check patient condition, bathroom needs and call light within reach, bed alarm, no skid socks, a special patient armband or bracelet that signifies fall risk, sign on door and above bed that states “Fall Risk”, having fall risk patient closer to the nurse’s station so as to have better access to patient. C- (Comparison): Random standard rounding on patients without “Fall Prevention Checklist”. O- (Measurable outcome): Patients will be free from injury due to decreased incidence of falls. T- (Time frame in months): 3 months
